Love Letters

I'm gonna start uploading these amazing letters I have.

They're from my grandfather to my grandmother and were written while he was stationed in Israel for peacekeeping when he was in the Irish army. They're possibly the most beautiful things I've ever read and really helped me through the hard times I've had with long distance. My mother gave them to me when I was really down and I read one every couple of weeks.
My grandfather often mentions my mom and her brothers in the letters, but I will probably just use initials for their sake.

He also had some really interesting encounters while in the army, so any that I remember I will recount here.

Whenever I go out (the people always shout... slut), I bring heels, wear them for about 5 minutes and then spend the rest of the night in flats. So, for the time being, I'm giving up on heels altogether. See, I have fallen arches, which means that wearing heels is about 10x more painful than it is for most people. I get the same pain when I go snowboarding, but I tend to keep going until the pain until it goes away cause I love snowboarding so much. This usually takes a few hours and I can't actually describe how painful it is. All I can say is that at the end of each run when we get the chairlift back up, my feet still hurt to the point where I can't sit still and cry a little bit.

Anyway, when I go out, I'm stay out between about 11 and 3 usually, so that means the pain isn't going to go away in that space of time, so why bother? Strappy shoes aren't so bad because I don't have to work as hard to keep my foot in the shoe, but still, it wrecks. Also, (lucky lucky), I have a boyfriend so I'm not looking for my bit, I just love to dance and not care about my general appearance.

Woot.

All of this leads me to this picture of my happy feet (and Molly's).

I want to be you, sexy lady

M.I.A, Born Free from ROMAIN-GAVRAS on Vimeo.

Ok, I know I'm about 20 years behind what's happenin', but I finally got round to watching MIA's video for 'Born Free'. I love it.

I know I'm not perfect when it comes to not being racist. As in, I don't like America because some of it's inhabitants are so painfully ignorant. But that's not fair to dislike all of America, especially as when I went there a few years ago, everyone was really friendly and lovely. It's just the stereotypical American that I dislike, but I think most American's probably hate it too (Sorry to keep picking on you USA, just an example!)

But anyway, blatant, misfounded hatred for someone because of their appearance is disgusting. Hating whole nations of people without knowing anything about them and their culture just sickens me. Having darker skin is literally a slight genetic difference from living in another part of the world (and we all came from Africa anyway!), as is having red hair and blond. So while MIA's video might seem ridiculous to some, it's a perfect example of how strange and undeserving racism is.

That's enough, I'm getting too political for my own self. You know what I mean.

I spent all day outside in the most glorious weather studying King Lear. I hate that play... I get easily distracted though...

The heat was too much for my three-legged friend...

The definition of my life; Tesco biscuits and mess. And mustache plasters...

I've got Nothing To Declare

"Artist's" impression of Australia

Nothing to Declare is this amazing documentary show about Airport Customs in Australia. Anyone who's been there knows what they're like; basically insane. I love it though and Australia does have a 'unique' (crazy) ecosystem thing going on that needs extra special care. Marsupials; they have babies and then they put them away for a while...

Anyway, in one particular episode, this crazy American woman was caught smuggling 1 kilo of cocaine in her wig. 1 kilo?! Customs noticed that the wig was sitting unusually high on her head, it was epic. But there are happy endings too; a Filipino man who liked to cross dress got a working visa and now lives as a woman in New South Wales on a farm. It's practically Disney.

I get really creeped out by parents who blog about their kids. It's sweet, but I'm young. I wanna read about the tunes and the drugz. Also, I have an awful feeling that I will be one of those parents in about 10 years.

And I've decided if all else fails, I'm gonna become a photographer, but one who only takes pictures of really heavily pregnant women smoking, doing coke and having sex. Because the world needs to see those pictures.

Vomit

Ugh, I ate an entire huge pack of custard creams and didn't study. I can't believe the most important exam of my life is less than 4 weeks away and I'm in my pyjamas watching cartoons.

Anyway, here's a much cooler person than me. Jealous...

I Love Cats!

In case you haven't noticed, I'm a crazy cat lady. I. Love. Cats.

Especially mine. His name is Alexander, but I call him Xander or Lamingtons. Just before Christmas he got into a fight (despite being neutered, he is extremely territorial) and some asshole cat damaged the nerves in the foreleg, resulting in amputation. I was devestated, but he's a little trooper and I knew he'd be fine. The vet recommended that he become an indoor cat, but that never would have worked. He recently got onto one of our neighbour's sheds after climbing a 7ft wall. And he's still as cute as ever!

Glorious

I saw these ages ago, but only remembered to share them now. They are so amazing.

Ooooooooh! Excitement! The latest from iamamiwhoami. Delicious symbolism that I barely understand. The gesture at the ending is quite cute I think; a little ropey hug, but also scarily noose like...

This video has really cemented for me the theory that the girl in the video is an actress and that the real brains behind the operation are still in hiding. And it can't be some amateur indie musician because the videos are clearly shot with amazing equipment and really well edited. I can't wait fro the next one...

Woe Is Me

You know when something bad happens and you want to vent about it some how but don't want to share all your depressing life stories with a bunch of strangers on the internet so you resort to being cryptic and ultimately an annoying little whiner per esempio 'Today my heart is so heavy and I don't know what to do... LOL LOL ROFLCOPTER!!1!!'

Anyway, a lot of good and bad things happened today.

Firstly, it was my birthday today and everyone in school was all nice and lovely. Then I went to give blood, which was AWESOME!! By the way, it seriously doesn't hurt at all. A little pinch when the needle goes in and then blood comes out, woot! I didn't faint or get sick either, so all in all, good times.

Then I went back to school and my friends made me a cake! How awesome, they shaped it like the game 'Operation' cause they know I wanna be a doctor. Good times were had all round.

The Cigarette Wall (I hate smoking but it looks so cool!)

Then I came home, happy to read all my lovely facebook messages. But I came across a very upsetting email. I did not get into the university I applied to and I'm really, really sad.

And then another thing happened that I don't want to talk about, but now I'm really depressed. Oh well, life goes on. Nothing much else to report amigos!
